Silence is a texture

The Void does not sound like space. Space is a vacuum, but it is also a recording problem. The Void is a design problem: a place that should have no sound, but must still tell you where you are about to die.

The audio team built a library of sub-bass pulses, reversed impact tails and room tones that are almost, but not quite, silent. The result is a mix that feels empty until you realize you have been hearing your own heartbeat for twenty seconds.

The first rule was simple: no music in the collapse. The second rule was harder: make the absence of music feel like a threat.

The fold tone

Every extraction window has a tone. The first is a clean sine wave. The second is the same wave, detuned by four cents. The third is not a tone at all; it is the sound of the wave being swallowed.

Players have reported hearing the third tone in their sleep. The team considers this a success, with some concern.

We are not scoring a place. We are scoring the moment you realize the place is scoring you.

Headphones recommended

The Season 04 mix supports spatial audio on all platforms. If you are playing on speakers, the team has one request: turn them up. The Void is quiet, but it is not polite.
